Four LCC Baseball Players Sign Early Letters of Intent

Four sophomores from the Lamar Community College Baseball team signed national letters of intent to play NCAA Division I & II baseball on Wednesday, Nov. 11th. LCC Head Baseball Coach Scott Crampton announced that pitcher Joe Rosenstein, catcher Jacob Giron, catcher Ambrose Romero, and infielder Donny Ortiz all signed to four-year institutions.

Joe Rosenstein, a 6'6", 215 pound pitcher from Arvada West High SchooL (Arvada, CO) signed with Washington State University. Joe spent his freshman year pitching for the Seina College Saints in Loudonville, NY, where he logged 11 innings and finished with a 3.27 ERA.  Last season Washington State University finished 24-30 overall and 11-14 in the Pac-12.  2015-16 school year brought about a coaching change at WSU and Marty Lees is currently the new WSU head coach. 

Jacob Giron, a 6'2", 200 pound catcher from Standley Lake High School (Westminster, CO) signed with the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff after batting .355 with 8 RBIs and 2 home runs as a freshman.  UAPB finished 25-16 and 17-6 in the SWAC Conference in 2015.  UAPB has won the last two Western Division Championships. 

Ambrose Romero, a 5'8", 195 pound catcher from Eldorado High School (Albuquerque, NM) signed with Colorado State University Pueblo.  Ambrose batted .377 with 11 RBIs and 26 hits as a freshman.  CSUP finished 41-16 overall and 28-10 in the RMAC in 2015.  

Donny Ortiz, a 5'8" 175 pound infielder from Columbine High School (Littleton, CO) signed after batting .291 with 27 RBIs and 5 home runs as a freshman.  MSU finished 28-22 overall and 21-14 in the RMAC in 2015.  Donny will have the privilege to play his home games on the beautiful new $12 million MSU athletic complex. With this, Ortiz follows in his father's footsteps once again.  Donny Ortiz, Sr. played at LCC in 1992-1994 then transferred to Metro State to complete his college career. 

The Runnin' Lopes are coming off a 43-15 season and an Empire Conference Championship where they finished ranked seventeenth in the country.  LCC has won the Empire Conference Championship thirteen out of the last fifteen years.
