Lady Lopes Outplay the Rattlers on the Road

The Lamar Community College Volleyball team battled hard in their recent game against rival team Otero Junior College to bring home a five set win.  On Thursday, October 8, the Lady Lopes traveled to La Junta to take on OJC.

"Both teams were banged up with injuries from the previous week, so it was going to be an old fashioned shoot out," commented Head Coach Brandon Stephenson.

Otero scored the first point of the night, but the Lopes made a run to get ahead.  The team then led for most of the first set but OJC made a late run to win 25-23.  OJC continued to play well in the beginning of the second set, but LCC fought back and won 25-19.  Coming out of intermission, the Lady Lopes were on a single mission and took the third set with a score of 25-20.

Both teams came out swinging hard and diving on the floor in the fourth set, but LCC came up short.  They lost the fourth set 21-25 to tie up the match.

It looked like OJC had it won in set five, as they led 8-5 at the turn, but the Lady Lopes fought back and tied it up at 11.  The teams traded points to 13-13, when LCC took control and won the last two points to end the game.

The Lady Lopes will host their first home game since the Little Caesar Classic on Thursday, October 15.  They will host Northeastern Junior College at 7pm in the LCC Wellness Center.  To watch the game online, visit the new LCC Athletics website at www.golopes.com.
