Lopes Win 3 of 4 in Nebraska

The Lamar Community College softball team won on the road last week, splitting against McCook Community College and sweeping North Platte Community College.

Wednesday, March 27th- In a pair of Region IX games, the Runnin' Lopes defeated the McCook Indians   5 - 3 in game one, before falling 5 - 4 in the second contest. Sophomore pitcher Emily Womeldorff threw a complete game in the first match up, striking out 5 and allowing 3 earned runs for the win. At the plate, sophomore second baseman Raylene Anaya went 4 for 5 with a double and RBI, while freshman Christa Ramirez knocked in 2 RBI's for the Runnin' Lopes offense. In game two, LCC gave up a two run lead in the bottom of the 7th, giving the Indians a walk off win. At the plate, freshman shortstop Rheanna Will went 3 for 3 at the plate, with 2 doubles and a homerun, knocking in 3 RBIs, however, the Lopes were unable to hold MCC's offense in the last inning of the game.

 

Thursday, March 28th- On Thursday, the LCC softball team rebounded from the tough loss against McCook, defeated the North Platte Knights 16 - 2 and 12 – 3. In game one, the Runnin' Lopes tallied 15 hits, including homeruns from sophomores Mykenzie Ferran and Megan Sandoval. Eight LCC bats contributed RBI's including Raylene Anaya (2) Mykenzie Ferran (4) Rheanna Will, Megan Sandoval (3), Kasey Cruz (2), Alayna Georgio (2), Kaylee Nakamura, and Kaitlyn Rickey. Freshman pitcher Christa Ramirez earned the win in the circle, striking out 7 and allowing two earned runs. In the second match up, sophomore catcher Megan Sandoval led the Runnin' Lopes offense, driving in 5 RBIs including a 3-run homerun. Sophomore pitcher Emily Womeldorff received the win in the circle, striking out 9 and with 4 hits.

 

 The Runnin' Lopes softball team is now 13-17 overall and 6-8 in Region IX play. They will taking on Trinidad State Junior College on Saturday and Sunday in Trinidad, Colorado.
