Lopes go 2-2 against conference foes
The Lamar Community College softball team won two against Northeastern Junior College on Sunday, before falling to Western Nebraska in a double header Monday morning.
On Sunday, the Runnin' Lopes took two from the Plainswomen defeating NJC 10-0 and 10-4. LCC racked up twenty-six hits and six homeruns on the day. Freshman Keilee Womack hit her first home run of the year and sophomore Mariah Lopez went 3-for-5 on the day with a home run and five RBI. Freshmen Larissa Royer and Lauren Reed each threw wins for the Lopes.
Despite 21 hits in the first game, the Runnin' Lopes fell 11-9 to Western Nebraska in the early game on Monday. With a two-run lead and two out in the bottom of the seventh, the Lopes loaded the bases with Cougars, leading to a walk-off grand slam for WNCC. Offensively, freshmen Samantha McDonald and Caitlin McCarthy both went 4-for-5 at the plate. In the second game, the Runnin' Lopes were unable to bounce back in a 13-0 loss against the Cougars. LCC recorded only three hits in the contest and freshman Shaelyn Bachini had the lone double of the game.
