The Lamar Community College softball team split with Otero Junior College on Wednesday, March 30. LCC fell in the first game, 14-0, but responded with a 10-5 victory over the Rattlers in the second game.

The Runnin' Lopes struggled to get their bats going the first match-up, recording only one hit in the contest. Freshman Mercedes Salazar had the lone hit of the game and freshman Lauren Reed gave up five earned runs while the Lopes defense had four errors. In the second game, LCC jumped ahead early and had a seven-run sixth inning to give the Lopes a five-run lead over OJC. Freshman Caitlin McCarthy went 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI while freshman first baseman Mackenzie Rowlett had a two-run double in the top of the sixth. Larissa Royer threw the win for the Lopes, striking out five and allowing four earned runs.

LCC will head to Scottsbluff, Nebraska to play a double header against Western Nebraska Community College on Saturday and will face off against Northeastern Junior College on Sunday in Sterling.
