Lopes sweep Garden City in midweek match-up

The Lamar Community College Softball team took two from Garden City Community College in a midweek double header, winning the first game 4-1 and the second 6-4.

In the first game, Sophomore Kelsee Bushell blasted a two-run home run in the third inning to give the Lopes (5-9) a two-run lead. LCC was able to score two more the fourth inning with the help of freshmen Keilee Womack and Caitlin McCarthy, who both went 2-for-3 in the game. Freshman Lauren Reed allowed just two hits and no runs to earn the win from the circle.

In the second game, the Runnin' Lopes were able to hold off a seventh-inning rally by the Broncbusters and responded with a two-run double by freshman Mercedes Salazar in the bottom of the inning to win the game. Samantha McDonald hit an inside-the-park home run to start the third inning, and freshman Mackenzie Rowlett went 3-for-3 in the game. Freshman pitcher Larissa Royer threw the second win for LCC, allowing one hit and striking out five. Freshman Delaney Ramos also finished the final innings of both games on the mound for the Runnin' Lopes, recording two saves.

The Lopes host Adams State JV beginning at noon on Saturday at Citizen's Field.
