Lopes Softball Wins 4 of 6 This Week

The Runnin' Lopes softball team took three from Northeastern Junior College this last week and split with Otero Junior College to push their record to 18-27.

The Lady Lopes had a four-game series against Northeastern Junior College on April 14-15, of which LCC was able to win three.  On Thursday, April 14, freshman Malea Orozco threw a 5-2 win in the first game.  Bailey Douglas made her college pitching debut in the second game that afternoon throwing a 17-7 win and batting 3 for 4 with a homerun and 4 RBIs.  Briana Martinez, Baylee Patterson and Taylor Worth also hit home runs and combined for a total of 10 RBIs.

The Runnin' Lopes got off to a slow start in Friday's double-header, losing the first game 2-12.  However, they were able to finish strong with a 9-6 victory in the final game of the series.  Bailey Douglas threw her second win of the year and went 4 for 7 on the day.  Freshman Kelsee Bushell went 3 for 6 and sophomore Baylee Patterson also contributed a homerun to the Runnin' Lopes offense.

On Wednesday, April 20, the LCC Softball team was able to take one game from conference rival Otero Junior College despite some unpredictable weather.  In the first game the Runnin' Lopes came up short, falling to OJC 7-10.  Mariah Lopez and Bailey Douglas both went 2 for 3 in the first game but defensive errors ultimately cost Lamar the game.  LCC was able to make a comeback in the second game, defeating the Rattlers 8-7.  Malea Orozco threw the win for the Lopes, while the LCC offence was led by Paige Miley who went 2 for 4 and Taylor Worth who went 2 for 3.

The Runnin' Lopes will play their final games on the road this weekend against Trinidad State and McCook Community College.
