Lopes’ Strong Batting Leads to Five Spring Break Wins

Runnin' Lopes Softball had a successful spring break week, stretching their win streak to seven games before falling to Garden City last Thursday.  LCC was able to pick up two wins against Adams State JV, two wins against Air Force Club, and one win against Garden City Community College.

The Runnin' Lopes started their spring break on March 11 in Alamosa, defeating the Adam State JV team 9-6, and 13-4.  Sophomore pitcher Stevie Wadsworth picked up the first win for the Lopes and freshman Malea Orozco threw the second game for the sweep.  Freshman Mariah Lopez led the offense for LCC, batting 7 for 9 on the day.  Sophomore Gabriella Diaz went for 3 for 4 in the first game, while sophomore Briana Martinez went 2 for 3 with a homerun for the Lopes in the second game.

On Tuesday, March 15, LCC continued their winning streak in Colorado Springs against Air Force Club, winning 23-3 and 15-9.  In the first game, sophomore Danie McFarland and freshman Mariah Lopez both went 2 for 2, while freshmen Paige Miley and Riley Lane both went 2 for 3.  Sophomore Baylee Patterson also contributed to the explosive Runnin' Lope offense, batting 2 for 3 in the first game with two doubles.  The hitting streak continued in the second game as freshman Jericka Melgoza and Natalie Sanchez both went 2 for 4 to help lead the Lopes to another win.

Bats continued to stay hot for the Lopes on March 17 as they hit seven home runs in the double header against Garden City Community College.  In the first game, LCC beat the Broncbusters 17-3. Baylee Patterson was 4 for 4 in the first game with two home runs and a double, Danie McFarland hit a grand slam, and Mariah Lopez hit her first homerun of the season.  Stevie Wadsworth threw the win for the Lopes.  Despite a continuously productive offense, LCC came up short in the second game losing 11-12.  Baylee Patterson went 3 for 4 the second game with her third home run of the day and a double.  Gabriella Diaz and Bailey Douglas also hit homeruns in the second game against Garden City. Unfortunately, LCC's strong bating was not enough to pull out a second game against the Broncbusters.

The Runnin' Lopes will get another chance against Garden City Community College in a doubleheader this Friday at Citizen's Field.  Games start at 12:00 and 2:00pm.
