Heiny ties for first at home tournament, helps team to third place finish

The Lamar Community College golf team earned a third place finish in their fall home tournament held this past Thursday and Friday, October 12-13, at the Spreading Antlers Golf Course. This tournament marked the end of their fall season, but the Lopes finished on a high note.

All teams enjoyed beautiful weather for the LCC tournament, with 88 degrees on Thursday, followed by a cool 64 degree day on Friday.

Robert Heiny led the Lopes team and tied for the top spot alongside Eastern Wyoming's Trey Massey with two-day total of 144 (71-73). 

Cesar Shinall finished with a two-day score of 155 (81-74), followed closely by Kyle Coen with 156 (74-82).  Joey Penovich finished with a 164 (83-81) and Geoffrey Kozlowski with 174 (92-82).

The Lopes finished in third place as a team with a two-day total of 619 (+59), 20 strokes behind second place.  They remained consistent, finishing Thursday play at 309 and then 310 on Friday.  

Eastern Wyoming College won the tournament with a team score of 593 (+33) with McCook Community College coming in second place with 599 (+39).  Central Wyoming followed LCC, taking fourth with a score of 633 (+73), while Northeastern took fifth with 638 (+78) and Otero took sixth with 652 (+92).

The Lopes will pick up their spring season on March 22-23 at Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado.
