LCC Golf competes in Central Wyoming Tournament

The Lamar Community College golf team traveled to Riverton, Wyoming, this past weekend for Region IX tournament play at Central Wyoming College.

The tournament, scheduled for September 14-15, was cut short due to weather.  While Thursday play began in 78 degrees and light showers, Friday was cancelled due to heavy rains.

Robert Heiny and Joey Penovich finished neck-and-neck, Heiny with a score of 81 and Penovich with 82. Kyle Colen finished with a score of 85 and Geoffrey Kozlowski with 90.

Cesar Shinall, who led the team in the first season tournament, struggled in the weather and finished with a 97.

The Lopes finished in sixth place as a team with a one-day total of 338 (+50), only one stroke behind the fifth place Otero Junior College.

McCook Community College won the tournament with a team score of 310 (+22) with Eastern Wyoming coming in second place with 315 (=27).  Central Wyoming took third 321 (+33), while Northeastern took fourth 330 (+42) and Otero took fifth 337 (+49).

Next on the Lopes' schedule is the Northeastern Junior College Tournament in Sterling, Colorado, on September 21-22.
