LCC’s Minnick and Lovett place in top five at McCook

The Lamar Community College golf team competed this past weekend at McCook Community College, including two top-five individual finishes from Jeremy Minnick and Josh Lovett. 

The tournament held in McCook, Nebraska, on April 6-7 had fair weather on Thursday, followed by 22 mph winds on Friday.

Sophomores Minnick and Lovett led the Lopes with a third and fifth place finish, respectively.  Minnick finished with a two-day score of 157 (72-85), only seven strokes behind the first-place spot.  Lovett was only two strokes behind his teammate, tying for fifth place with a final score of 159 (77-82). 

LCC's Facundo Boero finished in 13th place with 166 (77-89), followed by Austin Matheny who scored 197 (107-90).

The Lopes finished in fourth place as a team with a two-day total of 679 (+103), only one stroke behind the third place team.  They finished Thursday play at 333, and only 346 on Friday despite the wind.  Their two-day total of 679 (333-346).            

Eastern Wyoming College won the tournament with a team score of 625 with Otero Junior College coming in second place with 657.  McCook took third (678), while Central Wyoming took fifth (690) and Northeastern took sixth (728).

Next on the Lopes schedule is Northeastern Junior College.  The team will travel to Sterling, Colorado, on April 12-13.
