Golf 5th at OJC Tournament

The Lamar Community College men's golf team finished fifth at its first Region IX Tournament of the season on Sept. 1-2 in La Junta.
The Lopes totaled a two-day score of 628 and sophomore Jeremy Minnick finished five off the pace with a 149.
Otero Junior College won the men's side with a total of 591, narrowly beating Eastern Wyoming's 592. Otero's Trey Massey won the men's tournament with a 144.
Lamar head coach Roy Dewbre said he was happy with the way the Lopes golfed on Friday, when their five-player total of 309 was 10 strokes better than the previous day's score.
"It shows us promise," Dewbre said.
Facundo Boero shot a two-day total of 153, Josh Lovett shot a 160, Nick Winn totaled 174 and Austin Matheny shot a 177.
McCook finished third in the team results with a 599, followed by Central Wyoming College's 619, Lamar's 628 and Northeastern JC's 666.
The host Rattlers also won the women's side, which featured just two qualifying teams -- OJC (668) and CWC (784).
Lamar hosts a two-day Region IX Tournament Thursday and Friday at Spreading Antlers Golf Course.
