Bio

Jaxon Autry joins the Running Lopes this year after a successful tenure as Assistant Coach at Garden City Community College, where he spent six years. During his time with the Broncbusters, the team compiled a 112-71 overall record. Autry worked under several esteemed coaches, including Kris Baumann (Odessa), Cole Dewey (Indian Hills), Bill Morosco (Lynn University), and Rusty Elmore (Garden City Community College). Notably, in 2009, the Broncbusters won the Jayhawk Region title for the first time in 53 years and placed 6th at the National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS.

Autry grew up in Kim, Colorado, where he was a four-year starting point guard for the Mustangs under coaches Tom Gooden and Gary Page. During his high school career, the Mustangs achieved a remarkable 91-7 record, with three state tournament appearances, including a Championship win in 1993. In his senior year, Autry was a Unanimous All-State Selection and was named to the All-State Tournament First Team. A highlight of his senior season was scoring 41 points in the opening round of the state tournament and averaging over 30 points per game, leading the Mustangs to a second-place finish.

Following high school, Autry served as a manager for the Colorado State University men's basketball team under head coach Stew Morrill and assistants Randy Rahe, Terry Dunn, and Don Verlin. The Rams went 18-12 in the 1995-1996 season and earned a bid to the NIT tournament. Autry graduated from CSU-Pueblo in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in History and completed his Master’s Degree in Human Performance and Physical Education from Adams State College in 2010.

Over the past 22 years, Autry has worked as a teacher and coach in Colorado and Kansas, coaching both girls' and boys' basketball at various levels. His coaching highlights include placing 3rd at State as a Head Coach and 2nd as an Assistant Coach in Colorado, as well as leading the 14u girls’ Runnin Reb’s team to a 2nd place finish nationally in Las Vegas. He currently runs HWCC REP Basketball in Southwestern Kansas, a training program for players of all ages. This summer, he trained 65 kids, ranging from beginners to college players, and saw his first HWCC professional signee, Kobe Dickson, sign with a Georgian professional team. Additionally, Autry helped coach the WKH 16u boys' team to a Reserve National Championship at the MAYB National Tournament in Wichita, KS.

Autry and his wife Kate, married for 25 years, have three children: Cooper (22), Baylor (16), and Josser (13).
