LCC Volleyball Battles NJC, Falls Short

Lamar Community College and Northeastern Junior College volleyball teams faced off in the LCC Wellness Center on Thursday, October 15.  The match was a fight from the beginning as the two teams traded point for point throughout the night.

The Lopes started off on a high note as they took the first two sets with scores of 25-21 and 25-23.  The tables turned in the third set, however, as NJC struck fast and gained a 4-0 lead.  The Lopes worked to come back and were able to tie the game up at 11.  At this point the teams traded points until the game was tied up at 23, but NJC was able to take the last two points and the set.  The battle continued in the fourth set as the Lopes gained an immediate 3-0 lead.  Their lead dwindled until the score was again tied up at 9.  The teams traded points to 15 where NJC slowly pulled ahead, taking the game with a final score of 21-25.

The final set was again close but the Northeastern team was able to outdistance the Lopes.  The final set came down to four points with NJC taking the set with a score of 11-14.

"The ladies fought hard and we just let it slip away from us tonight," commented Head Coach Brandon Stephenson.  "We saw some good things out of the ladies tonight but did see some areas that we need to work on for these last four home matches."

The Lady Lopes play two more home games over the weekend.  They will face Western Nebraska Community College at 6pm on Friday, October 16, and McCook Community College at 1pm on Saturday, October 17.  To watch the games online, visit the new LCC Athletics website www.golopes.com.
