In a dynamic move for the Lamar Community College women's basketball program, Coach Delino Lewis heads into the second year as Head Coach, bringing his expertise not only as a college basketball player, but also having an impressive career as a professional basketball player, and the unique perspective of being a devoted father.

Coach Lewis embarked on his coaching journey at in his first year at Lamar, heading the 2022-2023 season. Coach Lewis a Texas Native, played Junior college basketball at Tohono College in Sells, AZ before transfering his sophomore year to play at Northern New Mexico. Once the season concluded at Northern, Coach Lewis went on the The University of New Mexico home of the Lobos, there Coach Lewis graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Science with a focus in Healthcare before heading over the border to play profesionally. The playing experiences have forged a coaching philosophy centered on player development, strategic gameplay, and a commitment to fostering well-rounded student-athletes.

A hungry coach and former professional basketball player, Coach Lewis carries an impressive track record, including being mentored by the late great Olympian Jim Forbes, playing professional basketball in the United States, Mexico, and in Serbia. The dual role as player and coach has shaped his focus on inspiration and leadership, contributing to tangible success for his teams.

As a father, Coach Lewis brings a unique perspective to the game, translating familial values into his coaching philosophy. The commitment to integrity, resilience, and teamwork extends beyond the court, creating an environment that nurtures the growth of student-athletes.

Entering the second year at Lamar Community College, Coach Lewis faces the season with determination and a strategic vision. Notably, the first year posed challenges as he navigated the coaching landscape without an assistant. Fighting through adversity alone in his inaugural year battle-hardened him, equipping Coach Lewis with intangibles forged in the fire of solo coaching.

As the new season unfolds, Coach Lewis is optimistic about the team's trajectory. Plans for the season include graduating his sophomores, signing his players, building lasting relationships with his team and staff, and of course winning both on and off the court. with an emphasis on building on the foundation laid in the previous year.

Looking ahead, Coach Lewis is poised to lead the Lamar Community College Runnin’ Lopes basketball program to new heights. With a focus on continuous improvement, he aims to empower student-athletes academically, athletically, and personally, driven by the principles of family, resilience, and success.
