The Lamar Community College softball team opens their season this weekend in Big Bend, Kansas playing a double header against Pratt Community College on Saturday, February, 1st, followed by a two game series against Barton Community College on Sunday, February 2nd

With the start of a new season, the Runnin' Lopes will be returning four sophomores while adding 15 freshman to the roster from Colorado, Utah, Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. The new squad hopes to improve upon last years 21 - 27 overall record with a strong pitching staff and hard-hitting lineup.

Freshmen Beverly Rehfeldt (Kissimmee, FL), Sheridan Wayne (Colorado Springs, CO), Naya Youtsey (El Paso, TX), and Sloane Vigoren (Provo, UT) will make up the new LCC pitching staff, each contributing their own strengths and style in the circle. "We are excited to have depth in the bullpen and plan on utilizing all four pitchers to carry us through the season," said Head Coach Kristen Silva," it will give us the ability to keep our opponents off balance and improve our overall success as a team."

Also important to the Runnin' Lopes success this spring are four returning sophomores, Alicia Fraire (Centennial, CO), Kaitlyn Rickey (Lakewood, CO), Alayna Georgio (Heber City, UT) and Morgan Reed (Lamar, CO).  Fraire led the team last season with 18 stolen bases and will play a critical defensive role in the outfield along with fellow sophomore Morgan Reed. Both Georgio and Rickey are also strong position players who will also contribute offensively and defensively, Georgio as a catcher/infielder, and Rickey at second base. "These players provide leadership and strength to our team. The entire group has worked exceptionally hard all fall to come together as a team and compete for a Region IX Championship this Spring stated Coach Silva, "We are excited to see what the 2019-2020 season brings."
