Lopes Win 3 of 6

The Lamar Community College Softball split in a four game series last weekend against Trinidad State Junior College and also with Colby Community College in a midweek match up on Wednesday.

Saturday, April 6th- On the first day of the Region IX match-up between LCC and TSJC, the Runnin' Lopes fell short in the first game, losing 6-7 but came back to win the second game 12-11. In game one, Alexis Johnson, Christa Ramirez, Raylene Anaya and Rheanna Will all recorded multiple hits for the Lopes, but the offense came up short in the 1 run loss. In game two, LCC strung together 22 hits to defeat the Trojans 12-11. Five Runnin' Lopes recorded RBIs (Raylene Anaya, Rheanna Will – 2. Megan Sandoval- 2, Kasey Cruz – 3, Alexis Johnson – 4) and sophomore pitcher Emily Womeldorff threw the win in the circle striking out 2 and allowing 3 earned runs.

Sunday, April 7th- On day two, LCC once again dropped the first game by one run to the Trojans, losing 5-6. Kasey Cruz led the Lopes in hits, going 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs, including a homerun and a double. Alexis Johnson also smacked a solo homerun, going 2 for 4 at the plate. In the second match up, the Runnin' Lopes pitching staff recorded 11 strike outs in the 9 inning win by Emily Womeldorff and Christa Ramirez. Freshman Rheanna Will went 3 for 5 at the plate including a double and homerun, and freshman Christa Ramirez went 4 for 4 with 1 RBI.

Wednesday, April 10th – In the midweek match up against Colby Community College, LCC fell 5-15 in the first game, despite an early lead. Megan Sandoval and Rheanna Will both recorded multiple hits with solo homeruns, but 3 errors on defense allowed the Trojans extra opportunities at the plate. In game two, the Lopes responded with an 8-4 victory over Colby Community College. The combined pitching staff of Katelyn Reagin and Emily Womeldorff allowed 0 earned runs in the win. Sophomore Kasey Cruz led the LCC offense, going 2 for 4 at the plate with 6 RBIs and 2 homeruns. Sophomore Megan Sandoval also went 2 for 3, and recorded the other two RBIs for the Lopes.

 

The Runnin' Lopes are now 16-20 overall and 8-10 in Region IX play. LCC will take on Otero Junior College on Sunday, April 15th and Monday, April 16th, in La Junta, Colorado and will play Garden City Community College at home on Wednesday, April 17th.
