The Lamar Community College men's golf team finished fifth at the Northeastern Golf Tournament in Sterling Sept. 5-6.

The Lopes' five-man team combined for a 324-335-649 (plus-73) to finish 38 strokes ahead of sixth-place Northeastern (687) and 29 shots behind fourth-place Central Wyoming (620). They were 47 shots behind first-place Eastern Wyoming (602).

Facundo Boero shot a 76 on Thursday and 77 on Friday for a two-day score of 153 to lead the Lopes.

"Facundo Boero played fairly well both days," LCC head coach Roy Dewbre said. "On the second round he was doing very well until the last couple of holes, otherwise he played well."

Josh Lovett was second on the Lopes with a 82-77-159. He was followed by Jeremy Minnick's 78-88-166. Minnick was Lamar's top golfer at the previous week's Otero Tournament, at which he shot a 149.

"Jeremy Minnick was in good shape after the first day but played poorly on the second round," Dewbre said.

"We need to get more consistent and stop trying so hard and just play."

Nick Winn scored 88-83-171 and Austin Matheny shot a 90-89-179.

McCook (609) was the runner-up, just one stroke ahead of third-place Otero.

Eastern Wyoming's Calum Giffen won the individual competition with a two-day score of 76-67-143. McCook's Connor McCrae scored 72-74-146 and Otero's Jace Peterson scored 69-79-148.

The Lopes host their own Region IX tournament this week at Spreading Antlers Golf Course Thursday and Friday.
