Lopes return to their winning ways

Logan Longo

The Lamar Community College men's basketball team hosted two games this past weekend, beating Frank Phillips College (51-43) and Peterson Air Force Base (89-69) to bring their record to 6-3 on the season.

Friday night the Lopes went up against Frank Phillips College, striking early and putting points on the board first off a long three from Logan Longo. The low-scoring game was tight from start to finish, with LCC leading by four points at the half and stretching that lead in the second to win my eight, 51-43.

Longo had fifteen points in the victory and Justin Holliday had fourteen. Aaris Bonds had a big night on the boards, getting six offensive rebounds and eight defensive for a total of fourteen and allowing the team to get a couple second chance shots.

Saturday night the Lopes played Peterson Air Force Base and set the tone of the game right from the tip. Jubrile Belo won the jump ball and assisted Longo in a three-point shot to mirror the game from the night before.

LCC led the Air Force team by sixteen points at halftime and didn't stop running the opposing team. Shots kept going up and falling in, helping the Lopes to an 89-69 win.

Justin Holliday and Jack Peck both contributed 18 points to the score, followed by Sam Boone with sixteen and Longo with fifteen. Quashaun Breland and Tugay Balyan hit the boards in a big way, pulling down eleven rebounds each in the game.  Boone also had nine rebounds.

Next on the Lopes schedule is the Casper Thanksgiving Classic. The team will travel to Casper, Wyoming on November 22, 2017.
