Roberto Carrasco has been named the Runnin’ Lopes interim Head Baseball Coach

Lamar Community College is excited to announce Roberto Carrasco as the interim head coach for the 2020 spring season. He takes over for Ben Buck, who will join the player development department of the New York Yankees organization.

“First, I am thankful for Coach Buck in providing an opportunity for me to learn and grow as a coach in the short time I was alongside him. I am grateful for all he has done for the baseball program. He has reestablished the championship level standard for this program, reigniting it back to the successful reputation of LCC baseball, which was set by Coach Crampton in prior years.” Carrasco said.

Carrasco was part of the coaching staff that brought a Region 9 championship back to Lamar. “We have a strong group of experienced sophomores that have reset the standard of the LCC baseball program. In combination with a strong freshman class, I’m excited to see what they will accomplish this year.”

Carrasco is an alumnus for Lamar Community College, assisting in winning conference championships as a player in both 2013-2014. He went on to complete his last two years at West Texas A&M University, where he also graduated with a bachelor of science in 2017.

In addition to the coaching staff changes for the 2020 spring season, Coach Carrasco hires Austin Moore from the Colorado Rockies Organization, as the new pitching coach. “I’m excited for Austin and what he brings to the LCC program. His Division I and professional experience will greatly impact our pitching staff in this upcoming spring.” Carrasco states. Coach JP Fasone will continue to aid in the offense, work with outfielders, and continue to run the Player Development Center.

“As for the baseball program, with Coach Fasone and the new addition of Coach Moore, we will continue to push new ideas and the forward-thinking model into our player development system. The support from our athletic director Scott Crampton and LCC Administration has made this transition smooth for everyone involved in the program,” Carrasco said.

“I’m excited about what this new coaching staff will be able to accomplish moving forward. I believe we have three great young minds in place for the continued success of the baseball program.” Crampton said.

The Runnin’ Lopes open the 2020 season at home on Jan. 25.
