LCC Volleyball Update: OJC and Odessa College Tournaments

The Lady Lopes Volleyball Team has been spending long hours on the road traveling to tournaments in Colorado and Texas.  The team most recently traveled to La Junta, Colorado, for a tournament at Otero Junior College and to Odessa, Texas for a tournament at Odessa College.  This upcoming weekend, September 18-19, the Lady Lopes will be traveling to another tough tournament at Western Texas College.

OJC Tournament, September 4-5

Tournament Results: LCC 3 – Adams State JV 0; LCC 3 – McCook CC 0; Colorado Northwestern CC 3 – LCC 2; Hesston College 3 – LCC 1

The Runnin' Lopes Volleyball Team went 2-2 in the third tournament of the year hosted by Otero Junior College.

The team had two decisive wins over Adams State JV and McCook Community College on the first day of the tournament, but tough opponents and an injury held the Lopes back on day two.  The Lopes lost a heartbreaking five set match to Colorado Northwestern Community College after taking the first match.  The team then took on Hesston College and fought hard.  After taking the first set in a grueling 33-31 win, they saw the match slip away and lost the next three sets.

"We saw great play on Friday and were able to get almost every player into the match against Adams St. Against McCook, we came together as a team and had goals that we wanted to accomplish in that match," said Coach Stephenson.  "But on the second day we had old habits show back up that we thought were taken care of and we need to correct them."

Odessa College Tournament, September 11-12

Tournament Results: Odessa College 3 – LCC 0; Vernon College 3 – LCC 1; LCC 3 – Midland College 2; Frank Phillips College 3 – LCC 0

Lady Lopes traveled to Odessa College on September 11-12 to take on four tough Texas teams and returned with one win and three losses.

On the first day of the tournament, the Lopes lost to host school Odessa College in 3 sets and then to Vernon College in 4 sets.  Day two started with a high energy five set win over Midland College followed by a 3-0 loss to former opponent Frank Phillips College.

"We didn't come back to Colorado with a record that we would have liked, but we did see some good things at this tournament," said Coach Stephenson.

Andreia Bomfin and TaNille Williams played very well and were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Western Texas College Tournament, September 18-19

Lady Lopes look to build momentum going into the Western Texas College tournament this Friday and Saturday, September 18-19.  The Lopes will take on the SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf, Vernon College, Ranger College, and nationally ranked Western Texas College.

"We are still focusing on improving in a handful of areas and are looking to get everyone playing time this weekend.  We will finish up our Texas circuit this weekend, which will give us a good look at where we are going to be come October," said Coach Stephenson.
