Lopes Snap Four Game Skid

The Lamar Community College women's basketball team travelled to Trinidad for a key Region 9 South battle and used a 20 point third quarter to pull away from the Trojans of Trinidad State Junior College, 55-43. The win snapped a four game losing streak.

The first half was a cold shooting affair for both teams, as neither team could find any sustainable offense. The Lopes won the first quarter 12-9, while the Trojans took the second 12-10 to trail 22-21 at the break. Both teams hit below 30% from the field and combined to go 1-14 from three.

The third quarter saw the Lopes come out and find some flow offensively as their motion offense started to click and a man press forced TSJC into some turnovers. With both the offense and the defense starting to click, the Lopes pushed the lead to as high as nine before settling on a 42-36 lead after three. Both teams would go back and forth in the fourth quarter before a mini 6-0 run gave the Runnin' Lopes 52-39 lead before settling on the final 12 point tally.

For LCC, Jada Dupree led a trio of double digit scorers with 16 points, she also added five steals, and four rebounds. Althea Angeles added 12 points and five steals, while Tayler Dossey finished with 11, including 9-10 from the charity stripe. Angie Lopez led the way with seven rebounds. For Trinidad it was Jacy Finley grabbing eight rebounds to go with 14 points.

Lamar is now 4-9 on the year, and will have two non-region games this weekend. They will face off with Frank Phillips College in Borger, TX at 4 pm MST on Friday, and will host Air Force Prep at 4 pm on Saturday.
