Lopes win two in a row

The Lamar Community College women's basketball team picked up two wins this past weekend over Northern New Mexico University JV (83-59) and Air Force Prep (59-45).

On Friday, the Lopes came to play, hitting the court running against the Northern New Mexico JV squad. They executed their offense well allowing freshman Hanna Diaz to hit a three-point shot and putting LCC first on the board.

LCC's good defense helped the team to a nineteen point lead in just the first quarter, a lead they slowly built up to 31 points at the half.  After a big first half, the Lopes allowed the JV team to outscore them in the third and fourth quarters, but the Lopes won the game with a final score of 83-59.

LCC's Sam Caruth led the team's offense with 15 points, while Iva Belosevic had 13. Freshman Armani Robbins had a double-double in this game with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Saturday afternoon the team played Air Force Prep, starting with great transition defensive from the Lopes.

After a tight first half, the Lopes trailed just one point.  They came out with a vengeance to end the game, outscoring the Air Force Prep team by fifteen in the second half and taking the win by a score of 59-45.

Kelyn Moses and Diaz each contributed thirteen points to the victory, followed by Caruth with ten and Belosevic with nine. Belosevic had a big night rebounding with seventeen, four offensive rebounds and thirteen defensive.

Next on the Lopes' schedule is their own Lamar Thanksgiving Classic.  They'll face Howard College on November 24 and Frank Phillips College on November 25.
