Women’s basketball team loses twice on the road

The Lamar Community College women's basketball team finished 0-2 this past weekend in the NJC Classic hosted by Northeastern Junior College.

On Friday, the LCC team went up against Casper College. The game started off fairly even in competition with the Lopes down by only two in the first quarter. The Thunderbirds pulled away in the second quarter, leading the Lopes 36-26 at the half.

After halftime, Casper came out swinging, increasing the lead to nearly 20 in two minutes. Although Despite the team's best efforts and a big scoring night for sophomore Iva Belosevic with 19 points, the Lopes could not pull through with a win.

They were outscored in both the third and fourth quarter. The final score was 45-77.

On Saturday afternoon, the Lopes played the Colorado Ballers.

Despite having three players with over 20 points, the Lopes were unable to overcome the Ballers. LCC took their second loss of the tournament, 100-95, and bringing the Lopes' record to 2-4 on the season. 

Belosevic once again led the LCC team with 25 points and eight rebounds.  Hanna Diaz contribute 23 points and Kelyn Moses chipped in 22 points as well as nine assists and seven rebounds. Shelby Hawkins led the team in rebounds with nine. 

The Lopes will return home to host the Northern New Mexico University JV team on Friday, November 17, at 5:00pm.
