LCC Wins 3 of 4 against Garden City & Frank Philips

The Lamar Community College Softball team won 3 of 4 games this past week in a midweek match up against Garden City Community College and a double header against Frank Phillips College on Saturday.

Wednesday, February 12th – LCC split with Garden City Community College on Wednesday, losing the first 15-16 and winning the second 17-8. Despite a 9 run lead early on, 7 LCC errors cost the Runnin' Lopes the first game in the bottom of the 7th inning. In the second game, LCC responded by beating the Broncbusters in 6 innings. At the plate, freshman catcher Leah Rivera went 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs and a homerun, while freshman pitcher Sheridan Wayne also recorded 4 RBIs and a homerun for the Lopes. Wayne earned the win in the circle, allowing no earned runs and striking out 3.

Saturday, February 15th – On Saturday, the Runnin' Lopes swept Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas, winning 16-8 and 8-5. Freshman pitcher Sloane Vigoren threw both wins for the Lopes, while the LCC offense combined for 26 hits in two games. Sophomore outfielder Alicia Fraire went 3 or 3 in the first game including 3 RBIs and 2 triples. Freshman Sheridan Wayne hit two homeruns on the day, and sophomore Alayna Georgio also smacked her first homerun of the year in the second match up.

LCC is now 4-4 overall and will play Colby Community College at home on Saturday, February 22nd before traveling to Colby, Kansas for another double header against the Trojans on Sunday, February 23rd.
