Lopes Win 1, Drop 3 in Weekend Opener

The Lamar Community College Softball won one of four games last weekend in a season opening double header against Pratt Community College and Barton Community College.

Saturday, February 1st – In the first two games of the 2019-2020 season, the Runnin' Lopes fell to Pratt Community College 14-6 before bouncing back to win the second game 15-6. Freshman Leah Rivera, Sheridan Wayne, and Krystina Arguello all recorded homeruns in the first game but 7 walks and 3 errors by the LCC defense allowed too many runs by the Pratt offense to keep the Lopes in the game. In the second match up, LCC's offense produced 15 runs, recording 15 hits including 6 doubles hit by Alicia Fraire, Katelynne Russell, Annahy Pesina, and Alayna Georgio (2). Pitching efforts by freshmen Sheridan Wayne, Beverly Rehfeldt, and Sloane Vigoren combined for a win in the circle for the Lopes.

Sunday, February 2nd- On day two, LCC dropped to games to the Barton Community College with scores of 2-12 and 1-4. In the first game, the Runnin' Lopes were only able to record 3 hits, one each by freshman Viviana Guzman, Katelynne Russell and sophomore Alayna Georgio. In game two, freshman Katelynne Russell lead the Lopes offense going 2 for 3 at the plate with a double. However, LCC was unable to produce enough runs to top the Barton Cougars, losing by 3 runs.

The Runnin' Lopes are now 1-3 overall. LCC will play next against Dodge City Community College on Sunday, February 9th in Dodge City, Kansas.
