Lopes Splits with McCook in Region IX Match up

Runnin' Lopes split with the McCook Indians on March 7th and 8th in the second Region IX match up of the season.

Thursday, March 7th – In the first game of the series, stagnate bats and an error filled defense plagued the LCC team as they fell 2-6 to the Indians. Freshman Christa Ramirez, was the only Runnin' Lope to record multiple hits, going 2 for 4 at the plate. Sophomore pitcher Emily Womeldorff received the loss in the circle, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 4. In a nail bitter second game, the Runnin' Lopes responded to the loss, defeating the Indians 8-7 in 8 innings. Freshman Alayna Georgio smacked in the winning RBI to give Lamar the lead in the bottom of the 8th, while sophomore third baseman Mykenzie Ferran went 3 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBIs. All three of LCCs pitchers combined innings in the 2nd game for the Lopes, allowing 6 earned runs and striking out 3.

Friday, March 8th – On day two, the Runnin' Lopes struggled in the first game, losing 3 -11 in 6 innings. Sophomore catcher Megan Sandoval went 3 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBI and a double, while freshman outfielder Johnette Sandoval went 2 for 4 at the plate. Freshman pitcher Katelyn Reagin threw the loss, allow 5 earned runs while the LCC defense committed 4 errors, giving MCC the offensive advantage. In the last game of the series, the Lopes were able to recover from an 8 run deficient to defeat the Indians 10 – 9. Sophomores Raylene Anaya (2), Megan Sandoval (3), and Mykenzie Ferran (2) all contributed multiple RBIs to the LCC offense. Sandoval, freshman Rheanna Will and freshman Christa Ramirez all smacked doubles and recorded multiple hits in the contest. Ramirez and Womeldorff were a combined effort in the circle, allowing 2 runs and striking out 7 as a staff.

The Runnin' Lopes softball Team is now 9-13 overall and 4-4 in Region IX play. LCC will square off against Western Nebraska Community College (10-14, 2-2) this weekend at home in a four game series.
