Runnin’ Lopes Softball takes two from Colorado Northwestern

The Lamar Community College softball team beat CNCC twice last Thursday, winning the first game 13–5 and the second 11–3. In the first game, the Lopes strung together 15 hits to beat the Spartans in five innings. Alicia Fraire, Raylene Anaya, Christa Ramirez, Mykenzie Ferran and Kasey Cruz all recorded multiple hits in the game, including 4 RBI for Ferran, and 3 RBI for Cruz. Sophomore pitcher Emily Womeldorff threw the win for the Lopes, allowing only four hits and one earned run for CNCC. In the second game, the LCC bats continued to stay hot as freshman Rheanna Will and sophomore Alexis Johnson hit their first home runs of the season. Will went 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI, and Johnson went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. In the circle, freshman Christa Ramirez received the win, striking out six and allowing three earned runs.

The Runnin' Lopes open Region IX play at home on Thursday and Friday against Northeastern Junior College. Game times will be 12 and 2 p.m. on Thursday and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday.
