LCC Softball drops two to Garden City CC, Sweeps Northwest Kansas Tech.

The Lamar Community College softball team played four games last week, losing two mid-week games at Garden City Community College but rallying Saturday to sweep Northwest Kansas Technical College at home.

Wednesday, February 13

In the first match up against the Broncbusters, LCC fell short losing 4-3. Freshman Christa Ramirez led the LCC offense going 2 for 4 and driving in two runs. Sophomore first baseman Kasey Cruz also smacked her first home run of the season, going 2 for 3 at the plate. Sophomore pitcher Emily Womeldorff took the loss in the circle, allowing three earned runs and striking out four. In game two, the Runnin' Lopes came up short again, falling 11-9. Sophomore third baseman, Mykenzie Ferran drove in three runs, batting 3 for 4 while freshman Johnette Sandoval contributed one RBI, going 2 for 2 in the box. Freshman Alayna Georgio also hit her first home run of the season, however four LCC errors and six unearned runs ultimately cost the Lopes the game.

Saturday, February 16

In a pair of home games on Saturday, LCC tallied 25 hits on the day to defeat Norwest Kansas Tech 9–1 and 11-1. In game one, freshman outfielder Alicia Fraire, went 2 for 2 while sophomores Megan Sandoval and Alexis Johnson both went 2 for 3 at the plate, driving five runs between the two hitters. Freshman pitcher Christa Ramirez threw the win for the Lopes, allowing one earned run and striking out five, while also going 2 for 2 in the batter's box. In the second match up, LCC put up five doubles led by Mykenzie Ferran and Rheanna Will who both went 3 for 3 at the plate. Sophomore Nonica Rivera also drove in four runs with a double and triple. Freshman pitcher Katelyn Reagin received the win, allowing one earned run and striking out two.

The Runnin' Lopes travel to Liberal, Kansas, on Thursday to take on the Seward County Community College Saints and will be back in Lamar this weekend for four games, playing Colorado Northwestern Community College on Saturday and Luna Community College on Sunday.
