Lopes host tournament to close out fall season

Lopes Golf wrapped up the fall season on familiar ground as they held their fall tournament this past Thursday and Friday, October 11-12, at the Spreading Antlers Golf Course.

Illness and injury has plagued the Lopes team during the fall season and struck once again at home.  Sophomore Keith Mergenthal suffered a back injury on the first day that took him out of the tournament, leaving only two Lopes in play as the season came to a close.  Joey Penovich finished with a two-day total of 161 (79-82) and Alex Acosta-Hernandez with 166 (82-84).

Eastern Wyoming College won the tournament with a score of 586 (+26). McCook Community College came in second at 597 (+37), followed by Northeastern Junior College and Otero Junior College tied in third with 628 (+68), and Central Wyoming College took fifth with 631 (+71). Lamar was unable to earn a team score with only two players earning scores.

The team will return for the spring season in March.
