Lopes Golf struggle in McCook Tournament
The Lamar Community College men's golf team traveled to Nebraska on September 27-28 for the McCook Community College tournament.
Joey Penovich led the Lopes team once again, finishing tied for ninth place with a two-day total of 168 (82-86) and +24 for the course. Alex Acosta-Hernandez finished with a score of 199 (112-87). Craig Collins returned to play after an illness kept him from finishing the last tournament; he shot 215 (108-107). Keith Mergenthal had a two-day total of 220 (95-125).
Eastern Wyoming College won the tournament with a score of 634 (+58), followed by McCook Community College with 638 (+62), Northeastern Junior College with 672 (+96), Central Wyoming College with 683 (+107), and Otero Junior College with 705 (+129). Lamar finished with a team score of 802 (+226).
The team will travel next to Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado, for the October 4-5 tournament.
